Transit Agency Perspectives on Customer Assault: Summary Report

FTA commissioned research to gain a deeper understanding of transit customer assault through interviews with transit agency representatives.

Overview

Public transit is a safe form of transportation. To help ensure the continued safety of our nation's public transit systems, FTA strives to provide useful information and resources for transit agencies to prevent and address crime in their systems, including customer assaults.

FTA has provided below a summary of some of the data from the National Transit Database regarding assaults on transit customers.

What's New

In partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation Volpe Center (Volpe), FTA commissioned research to gain a deeper understanding of transit customer assault through interviews with transit agency representatives. The Volpe research team explored factors contributing to customer assault events, trends in assault data and mitigations. Please find the report here.
