Transportation Safety Institute
The Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) supports FTA’s mission by providing economical, timely, state-of-the-art training and educational opportunities to the transit industry. TSI assists FTA in meeting its federal training mandate by developing, managing and delivering innovative instruction through instructor-led course offerings and e-learning technologies. All training is designed specifically to meet the needs of today’s changing transit industry, its regulations and safety best practices.

National Transit Institute (NTI) Course Catalog

Assault Awareness and Prevention for Transit Operators (Direct Delivery)
This course provides transit bus operators with prevention strategies necessary to reduce the likelihood of assault incidents.
Assault Awareness and Prevention for Transit Operators (Train the Trainer)
This course provides transit agencies and instructional staff with the support necessary to deliver the course within their agencies.
Violence in the Transit Workplace – Prevention, Response and Recovery (Train the Trainer)
This course provides transit agency instructional staff with the support necessary to deliver the Violence in the Transit Workplace – Prevention, Response and Recovery course within their agencies.
Violence in the Transit Workplace – Prevention, Response and Recovery (Direct Delivery)
This course provides participants with knowledge and skills to prevent, respond to and recover from workplace violence.
Entry-Level Driver Training Regulations
Issued in 2016, the Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulation sets Federal standards for mandatory training of entry-level drivers obtaining a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for the first time, upgrading an existing Class B CDL to a Class A CDL, and obtaining the hazardous materials, passenger or school bus driving endorsements for the first time. Compliance with these regulations is required by Monday, February 7, 2022. Please submit questions to TPR@dot.gov and visit tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov for more information.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) hosted a webinar on the FMCSA ELDT Rule Requirement. This webinar provided an overview of the ELDT Final Rule and Training Provider Registry, plus outlined the driver, training and training provider requirements.
