Overview

FTA employs a Safety Risk Management (SRM) process to address safety concerns within the transit industry, encompassing both bus and rail systems. This approach leverages FTA’s statutory oversight to enhance the safety of the nation’s transit networks. The SRM program integrates data-driven quantitative analysis with qualitative insights from subject matter experts to identify, assess, and mitigate safety risks on a national scale. By collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders, the SRM program aims to reduce risks to transit workers, passengers, and operations through a structured four-step process.
