Analysis of Challenges Facing Pregnant Women Riding Public Transit (Report 0211)
This report provides an analysis of the challenges faced by and the accessibility of public transit for pregnant women. A targeted research initiative on the specific challenges of public transit use by pregnant women is recommended. Specific challenges identified in research are that public transit systems and schedules may not be designed to support the needs of pregnant women riders, passenger compliance with “courtesy” rules to accommodate pregnant women is weak and inadequate, accessibility barriers can hinder easy and safe use of public transit for pregnant women, and personal safety and security, including cleanliness of the system, are concerns for women riders.
