Project: Jackson Transit Authority Facility Construction and Replacement Vehicles
ARRA Award Amount: $1.1 Million
Program: Urbanized Area Formula
Jackson Transit Authority is using its ARRA formula funds for facility construction and the replacement of transit vehicles.
$575,000 of the ARRA funds allow for the construction of administrative offices to be included in the currently under construction operations and maintenance facility funded by previously approved 5307 and 5309 grants. The administration portion of the building is 2,400 square feet, and its foundation is shown in the foreground of the photo above. The portion of the building with the structural steel in place will be the operations and maintenance facility. The total building footprint is 17,400 square feet, the total area for site functions is 41,400 square feet, and the total project construction cost is $4 million. The building will have a useful life of 40 years and will be straight line depreciated for 40 years.
The site is conveniently located near downtown Jackson and the US 45 Bypass and has good access to city streets and local highways.
The remainder of the ARRA grant will fund three replacement vehicles: one 30-foot bus and two smaller paratransit vehicles. The ARRA grant will also fund 49 full time equivalent (FTE) jobs, including 27 for the manufacture of the three vehicles and 22 for the construction of the administration portion of the building.
