Issues in Bus Rapid Transit

The example of Curitiba, Brazil and experiences in the U.S. provided in this FTA-sponsored report illustrate the potential of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to address mobility needs in metropolitan areas. Yet, implementing BRT poses challenges, such as the need for adequate cross sections on city streets for bus rights-of-way and minimizing noise and air quality impacts, that require analysis and locally appropriate solutions.
