WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) today announced a $500,000 research grant award to the University of South Florida (USF) to identify safety risks for transit workers and riders and determine the most effective strategies to minimize them. The initiative will better inform FTA’s efforts in developing public transportation safety measures in the light of many reports of violence toward transit workers. Better understanding the data and risks will lead to strategies that improve safety on the nation’s transit systems.
