ARRA Fact Sheet: DART Orange Line Construction
Project: DART Orange Line Construction
City: Dallas
State: Texas
ARRA Award Amount: $61.2 Million
Program: Formula (Rail)
Description:
DART received $61.2 million in ARRA funds in support of the 14-mile Orange Line rail construction project that will connect Dallas, the thriving Las Colinas Urban Center (LCUC) in the nearby city of Irving, and ultimately DFW International Airport, opening to Las Colinas in 2011 and DFW Airport in 2013.
This project represents a public transit investment in excess of $817 million. More than 80 contractors, based in 14 states, are bringing this project to fruition. This project already has attracted one of the country's largest transit-oriented development programs with a private and municipal investment of $3.7 billion around the first six rail stations. The City of Irving, in particular, is constructing a $114 million, 270,000 square foot convention center in close proximity to the LCUC station. Together, these modern transit villages are expected to draw nearly 10,500 new residents and 18,000 new employees.
Over 600 direct, on-project jobs are being created or sustained by the Recovery Act funds on this project.
