Joint State Safety Oversight and Rail Transit Agency Workshop

This workshop will focus on effective rail transit system safety, oversight responsibilities and the State Safety Oversight (SSO) rule certification and implementation. An executive session on Tuesday, October 24 is intended for rail transity agency executives, SSO agency heads, state Department of Transportation secretaries and leaders from FTA.
Presentations will be provided by FTA's Office of the Chief Counsel, Budget and Policy, Program Management and Transit Safety and Oversight, as well as FTA regional staff, RTA officials and others involved in state safety oversight activities. Topics include:
- accident notification
- accident investigation
- rail transit research
- program oversight
- safety training
- rail grade crossings
- safety culture
- corrective actions
- FTA's Drug & Alcohol Compliance Program
The workshop is open to States with a rail fixed guideway public transportation systems. We encourage State Safety Oversight (SSO) Program Managers, their supervisors, the alternate Program Managers, and any support staff to attend the workshop. Chief Safety Officers, Safety Directors, and interested management from each State’s Rail Transit Agencies are also encouraged to attend. The workshop will also promote the exchange of information between TSO, FTA Regional Offices, other Federal agencies, the SSO agencies and Rail Transit Agencies regarding new programs and requirements to strengthen rail transit safety oversight. Contractors supporting the SSO program and rail transit agencies are also invited to attend.
