Summary

As required by the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) issues a rule requiring States to oversee the safety of rail fixed guideway systems not regulated by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). This document accordingly sets forth FTA's State safety oversight program, which is intended to improve the safety of rail fixed guideway systems.
