Environmental Assessment for the Southeast Corridor Extension

Project Location: Denver, CO
Project Sponsor: Regional Transportation District

The Regional Transportation District will expand its Southeast Rail Line, which opened in 2006, by adding 2.3 miles to the current line. It encompasses three additional stations, including Kiss-n-Rides, and a Park-n-Ride.

FTA's environmental document reviewers commended the document for the following:

  • Use of plain language, clear writing, and bulleted lists
  • Use of clear and effective graphics
  • Use of tables to summarize findings or replace text

Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Purple Line

Project Location: Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties, Maryland
Project Sponsor: Maryland Transit Administration

The Purple Line is a 16-mile light rail line that will extend from Bethesda in Montgomery County to New Carrollton in Prince George's County. It will provide a direct connection to the Metrorail Red, Green and Orange Lines; at Bethesda, Silver Spring, College Park, and New Carrollton. The Purple Line will also connect to MARC, Amtrak, and local bus services

FTA's environmental document reviewers commended the document for the following:

  • Presents information in a clear manner by using reader-friendly, plain language and side boxes with explanatory information
  • Use of visually appealing and effective graphics, and tables that provide a quick reference for technical information
  • Easy to understand, while successfully resolving complicated environmental issues
