Improving the Resilience of Transit Systems Threatened by Natural Disasters

  • In 2014, FTA sponsored a Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP) report to develop a compendium of practices used by transit agencies to improve the resilience of their systems to natural disasters. The resulting guide and database are available online at www.resilienttransit.org. The research backing up this guide includes an extensive literature review and 17 case studies that showcase leading practices in resilience adoption across a wide spectrum of transit agency organizational structures, sizes, hazard profiles, and regions.
  • On March 12, 2018, FTA and TRB held a webinar to share the results of this research with interested stakeholders. A recording of this webinar can be found online here.
