Associate Administrator for Communications & Congressional Affairs
Philip O. Newman has led FTA's Office of Communications and Congressional Affairs since March 2018. Mr. Newman started with the Department of Transportation in summer 2017 as Senior Governmental Affairs Officer in the office of Secretary Elaine L. Chao, working on transit, highway, aviation, and motor carrier issues.
Prior to joining the Department, Mr. Newman worked on Capitol Hill for seven years. He most recently managed the transportation, aerospace, water, and agriculture portfolios as Legislative Assistant for U.S. Senator Cory Gardner. Mr. Newman previously worked in the House of Representatives with tenures as Deputy Chief of Staff/Legislative Director for Congressman Mark Meadows and Legislative Aide for Congressman Cory Gardner.
He earned a BA in Political Science from Colorado State University and grew up in Maryland before moving to Colorado for high school and college. He and his wife live in Washington, DC.
